Instagram is developing a new feature called "Storylines" that will enable enhanced Instagram social commerce and engagement opportunities through collaborative Story chains with connections, marking another step in the platform's efforts to enhance social interaction.

The experimental feature, first revealed by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, enables users to build expanded narratives by letting their mutual followers add related content to their Stories, creating a multi-perspective storytelling experience.

How Storylines Will Work

The new feature allows friends who follow each other to link their related Stories together, creating an extended narrative around shared experiences. For example, multiple attendees at a concert or party could contribute their perspectives to a single Story thread, building a more comprehensive view of the event through strategic Instagram marketing implementation.

Public accounts using Storylines will enable broader participation, as connections of contributors can also add to the Story chain. Private accounts will maintain control over visibility while still showing participation indicators to non-followers, potentially encouraging new connections.
